QUESTIONS & ADVICE
Many individuals who are experiencing massage therapy
for the first time can be hesitant about the protocol. Relax! You are in good hands! Simply follow these easy
steps to a great session!
BEFORE ARRIVAL: You will want to feel generally well the day of your session. If you
are under the weather, have a cold or a fever of over 101 degrees, these are contraindications for massage and we strongly
recommend rescheduling your session. Recent strains or sprains or any other types of injuries should be discussed with
your therapist prior to your arrival. She can evaluate any concerns you may have.
Try not to have a full stomach
before a massage, as this may cause you some discomfort. For the ladies, if you are menstruating on the day of your
massage, be sure to wear protection on the table, as the increased circulation from the massage can cause a sudden heavier
flow.
Though these steps are not necessary, you may want to shower before your massage to feel more refreshed
and confident. Ladies often shave before a massage to feel more comfortable, but this is also not necessary.
HAIR
& MAKEUP: Eye and lip makeup will not be disturbed. If you are wearing excessive foundation and need to return to
work, you may want to bring your cosmetic bag to freshen up after your session; or, you can request that your face be skipped
during the massage. There are no oils/creams used on the face or scalp; however, some of these lubricants can be transferred
to your hair during the neck portion of your massage, so always consider this fact. Most often you will feel so good
that you won't mind your "massage doo"!
SKIN: Your therapist will assess your skincare needs and
use a lubricant that will enhance your skin's needs. You may also request a specific type of lubricant; be it oil,
cream or lotion. This is your massage and you may use any type of product you prefer. Of course, you may even
bring along some of your own favorite products to be used for your session.
CLOTHING: The therapist will leave you alone
to undress before your session and await your signal that you are completely covered on the table (on your back, face up).
You may wear anything you like during your massage; simply keeping in mind that clothing is a "STOP SIGN" for massage
therapists. For example, if you leave your socks on, we will not massage your feet; if you leave your bikinis or briefs
on, your gluteal area will not be treated, and so forth. For those clients experiencing low back pain, we strongly recommend
removing your underwear so that we may address this important area. Gluteal cleavage is never exposed, but draped so
that merely the top of the leg and hip area are exposed. We will protect your modesty at all costs!
Most people
feel quite safe undressing completely in order so that the therapist can access the body more easily; however, this is strictly
a personal preference and your choices will be carefully respected. We want you to feel safe and secure during your
massage so that you can relax and receive the full benefits of the treatment. Massage draping is very specific to the
areas we address and we never expose your private areas under any circumstances. With this in mind, please only undress
to your specific level of comfort and remember that you will be covered at all times. Only an arm or a leg at a time
will be undraped.
HOME VISITS: Same as above, only you choose the location! We come fully equipped with our heated
table, linens and our high quality lotions. We also bring along soothing musical selections for your comfort, or yYou
may play your own music. You may also use candles if you like. Have an extra blanket nearby and/or a pillow for your
convenience.
AFTER YOUR MASSAGE: You should feel wonderfully relaxed!! Sometimes, individuals will feel a bit 'woozy'
after a massage. This is due to the increased blood circulation to your brain. The feeling will pass shortly but
the overall results will last for days! Infrequently, people will experience nasal discomfort, a headache, slight nausea or
experience initial discomfort in the areas treated. This is caused by increased blood to the brain as well as triggered
areas within the muscle tissue. Your body is healing! Drink plenty of water after your massage to ensure that
all 'loosened' toxins are flushed and released by the body -- you should feel great and enjoy a very sound sleep that
evening.
Most clients feel instant relief from pain. Others will feel more results the day after. At times,
you may need two sessions before your pain is gone, depending on it's origin and cause.
